Overtaking in karting isn’t about being aggressive — it’s about being smart. The best passes happen with planning, patience, and precision. If you divebomb into every corner, you’ll either crash or lose momentum. But time your moves right, and you’ll climb through the field cleanly.
In this guide, we’ll show you when to attack, when to wait, and how to pass without contact, so you can race hard and fair — just like the pros.
1. Know the Best Places to Overtake
- End of long straights – Great for braking moves
- Hairpins – You can outbrake your opponent
- Exit of corners – Use better traction to out-drag them
Stay away from risky spots like mid-chicane or high-speed sweepers — it’s not worth the spin.
2. Set It Up First
- Follow closely for a lap or two
- Pressure them into a mistake
- Show your nose on corner entry to force them wide
- Then go for it when they leave the door open
3. Use the Draft
4. Commit — But Don’t Divebomb
But be respectful: if you’re not at least halfway alongside at the turn-in point — you don’t have the corner.
5. Defend Without Blocking
- Move once to cover the inside
- Then hold your line
- Swerving or blocking in braking zones isn’t just unsafe — it’s against the rules
